In a steel plant, water is a process fluid carrying megawatts of heat. The engineering habits that come from that apply to treatment plants too.
We arrived at water treatment through cooling circuits: seawater systems, closed and open loops, and the balance-of-plant piping that keeps a furnace inside its thermal envelope. The instrumentation and control thinking transfers straight to municipal and industrial treatment work.
More recently that has extended to intelligent P&ID development, where the diagram becomes a live data model of the plant rather than a drawing that goes out of date the week it is issued.
P&ID development as structured plant data, used for operation and maintenance rather than only for construction.
